Virginia Foxx Wins Republican Primary

Clemmons, NC - Congresswoman Virginia Foxx won the Republican primary for North Carolina's 5th Congressional District tonight. Congresswoman Foxx now advances to face the Democrat challenger in the general election in November.

Congresswoman Foxx released the following statement after the results of the election were no longer in doubt:

"Tonight I am honored to be elected by the Republican Party to seek a fourth term representing the 5th District of North Carolina in Congress.

"First, I want to thank God for the many blessings He has given me this year. I would also like to thank my family including my husband Tom, my daughter Theresa, and my grandchildren Kenan and Rana for their unconditional love and support.

"And what would this campaign be with out my staff and our many campaign volunteers? They deserve my heartfelt gratitude for their hard work and remarkable dedication. To everyone who supported me with your time, your hard work, your contributions, and your prayers: thank you. Your support is invaluable and will be needed again to win in November.

"Together we can re-energize our tradition of American innovation. We can spur job-creation and economic growth by focusing on reducing government spending, keeping taxes in check and rolling back burdensome regulations that hold down our country's innovators and entrepreneurs.

"The simple truth is that today Washington is spending too much and in the wrong way. Massive government spending is a failed policy that has thrown us ever deeper into debt. I have done my part by taking a no earmark pledge and voting against the government takeover of healthcare, the bank bailouts and other big-government spending programs.

Even though your voices have been ignored by many in Washington as the majority party continues its spending spree, I want you to know that I hear your voices loud and clear. And I will not sit idly by while Washington fritters away your tax dollars and buries generations under a mountain of debt.

As we approach the November general election, I ask you for your support once again. If you have not supported me in the past I ask you to look at my record of reform, my commitment to service and my fiscal restraint and give me your consideration. You can count on me to bring North Carolina common sense to Washington."
