Foxx reiterates no-robocall pledge

October 31, 2008

Clemmons, N.C.—As the 2008 campaign enters the home stretch, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx reiterated her pledge to voters to refrain from political robocalls. Foxx initially made the pledge during her first term in office and has worked in Congress to craft legislation that would allow voters to opt-out of automated political calls.

\"Every election year voters are bombarded with automated political robocalls that they don\'t want,\" Foxx said. \"My promise to every North Carolina voter is that their homes will never be invaded with a robocall from my campaign.\"

Foxx was the first Member of Congress to sign Citizens for Civil Discourse\'s \"no robocall pledge\". She also authored legislation, the Robo Calls Off Phones Act (H.R. 248), which would create a national do not call list for political robocalls. Voters currently cannot opt out of automated political robocalls by adding their names to the FCC\'s existing Do Not Call list.

\"Giving voters the option to opt-out of increasingly deceptive and intrusive robocalls is just plain common sense,\" Foxx said. \"But until this idea becomes law, I promise that not one voter\'s evening will be interrupted by robocalls from my campaign.\"
